O’ Scuru o’ scuru
Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio are the grape varieties that give life to the Etna Rosso DOC. The vineyard is located on the volcano Etna at an altitude of 650m asl.
The scenery is impressive, the volcano, with its effusive vents relatively close to the winery, makes his “voice” heard during the day (these are the sounds emitted from the Etna) while at night the lights from the eruptions can be seen. The surrounding vegetation is lush and wild. Only human passion and respect for its land could have led to the cultivation of vines at such high altitudes but the results is a great wine in full respect of the terroir.
The vines, grown in espaliers with a density of 6000 vines/ha, are nearly 40/50 years old. The hand-picked grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak barriques for 6 months. The volcanic soil, rich in minerals, gives the unique flavour to this deep ruby red wine.
The nose perceives notes of berries, spices and vanilla. In the mouth it is smooth, fresh and persistent. Soft tannins lead to a pleasant sapidity.
Food pairings: we recommend it with boiled beef (lesso di manzo), meat roasts, game, cheese (primo sale e provola dei Nebrodi).
The name of the wine comes from the sonnet by the famous Sicilian poet Nino Martoglio.
