Phytodepuration

Phytodepuration Project

Al-Cantàra is at the forefront of environmental sustainability. In collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania, an innovative phyto-purification system has been developed. This system consists of three descending level ponds, each with specific functions.

Wastewater generated during wine production is fed into the first pond at the top. In cascade, the wastewater will travel along the path, where at each stage (pond) it will undergo a purification process. Thanks to the contribution of bacteria, microorganisms, and the thick vegetation planted in each of the ponds

First on Etna to install a FITODEPURAZIONE project, we thus contribute to reducing the company's environmental impact in this magnificent area.

The selected plants not only purify water, but also promote local biodiversity, contributing to a healthy and regenerated ecosystem.

Relic Vineyards

Enhancement of Relic Vineyards.

Al-Cantàra is deeply committed to the preservation of the relic vineyards, that is, the historic vines that populate the Etna region but that have unfortunately become nearly extinct over time.

They constitute an invaluable viticultural heritage that contributes to the biodiversity of the area.

Working with the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Catania, Al-Cantàra is studying the potential of these historic grape varieties for the production of high-quality wines. This project not only helps to preserve Etna's viticultural history, but also aims to restore varieties that are in danger of disappearing. Caring for and researching these vines helps to enhance the cultural and wine identity of the region.

Sustainable Energy

Commitment to sustainable energy

Al-Cantára has invested in photovoltaic systems to produce solar energy, helping to reduce the company's environmental impact.

This commitment to renewable energy makes it possible not only to lower production costs, but also to promote more sustainable development that respects the surrounding environment.
